German Third Reich "OSTMEDAILLE" (Eastern Front Campaign Medal)
The Eastern Front Campaign Medal, or more correctly titled "Ost Medaille" was issued on 26 May 1942 for service on the Russian Front. It was held in high regard due to the rigors one would have experienced. The official prerequisite for award was to have served in the Russian theatre of operations, either for two weeks of combat or for sixty continuous days anywhere in the theatre, or to have been wounded or frostbitten in the theatre before completing the qualifying time, during the period 15 November 1941 to 15 April 1942. In reality, it essentially meant that one was a survivor and not counted among the hundreds of thousands either killed or taken POW by the Russians.
